IL2 re-install question

I have what may be a very basic question, but one I have yet to find the answer to...

When you ininstall/reinstall IL-2 what file contains the "control" settings (i.e. flaps, gear, etc)? It gets old having to reprogram everything in the increasingly frequent ocurrence of reloading the game.

The control assignments are stored in the following location:

C:/Program Files/Ubisoft/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/Users/<user>/settings.ini

what I did was copy my conf.ini file and it took all my joystick controls and display settings the way they were in the old install into the new install.
