S!

Well I solved my "video card" issue- after buying a new card on ebay... Turns out my monitor, a Viewsonic, is prone to biting the dust and was the problem all along.

Today I went and bought a new LG 24" monitor that runs native resolutions of 1920X1080. Any tips on how not to play IL2 without the black edges on either side? I modified config.ini to reflect 1920X1080 and it solved the stretching only to have a smaller box with the black on either side. I upgraded my drivers for the venerable Radeon 9800Pro to Catalyst 9.3- the latest for this card.

I heard Winger giving Buzz tips on this the other night but wasn't able to catch all that he said...

SimHq had a thread that talked about IL-2 stab as a solution, but this utility seemed to have more than I was looking for (ie custom war diaries, Finnish markings, and such).

Any thoughts would be appreciated! BTW, It is so nice to have a good monitor!

Salute Stew,

Here's the relevant section of the confi.ini file:

[window]
width=1280
height=800
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1 <----- You need this bit if you're not running at the native resolution, otherwise switch it to 0
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

If you want to run it at the native resolution set this is what it will look like for you.

[window]
width=1920
height=1080
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

And this was mine...

[window]
width=1920
height=1080
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=1
Use3Renders=0

Looks like "save aspect" was the culprit. I will try that. Thanks for your quick help, fellas!

W O W!!!! :)

I can actually see what I'm shooting at! I've decided that instead of getting stronger glasses I will instead just keep upgrading monitor sizes. The clarity is amazing- once I get TIR working I might actually be able to keep up with you guys again.

Thanks again.

So with windows 7 coming out shortly has anybody upgraded yet.

Might be wise to start a help thread.

Whats windows 7 64 bit or 32 bit.

Surely we should be trying to move to a 64 bit operating system. But what teething problems are we going to have.

I've been running Vista 64-bit for over a year with no issues.

By all accounts, Win 7 is an excellent OS- what Vista was supposed to be.

Tai, there was a thread down below dealing with 32 vs 64 bit. Good info. I have decided to go 64 when I upgrade.

Last night I was finally able to get in game, with all my joystick settings in order, TIR working... I have had a few issues with screen flickr and last night my game crashed 2x and I got a BSOD.

Looks like a graphic card problem. I am running a 8800GTS and will try to roll back my drivers tonight and see if that helps. I checked online and see otehrs have had similar issues but see no definative cause or fix. Looks like I'll have to work this one out on my own.

I dis not have this issue running Vista but I may reinstall it so the game is playable for me.

Computers are like a Rubicks Cube. You get it so it looks all good from one side and you have completely screwed up several other things in the process.

I'll get there eventually. One more thing I wnated to ask... What setting do I use to get the really great looking water I see in some of the screenshots. I set everything to perfect and it still does noyt look that good. Is there a setting in teh Config that is not assesable from the regular ingame settings menu to up the water quality?

In the conf.ini file change to water=4 it should be near the bottom.

Running XP Professional at 64 bit, with a 4 G of ram.........runs perfect.U won't regret it to switch to a 64 bits OS.
