S! Squad

I am pleased to announce our newest member of the squad, RAF74_LoyalNine. He is a former member who was formerly known as Thrawn. LoyalNine hails from Maine and is ready to jump back in the cockpit as a member of RAF74. He flew with us through some of our toughest wars against Jg1 and I am sad to say there are still many more huns to shoot down! :)

He is having some PC problems at the moment so, LN's activities will likely be restricted to the forums for the time being.

Welcome (back) on board, LoyalNine!

Stew

Thanks a lot guys. I am pretty pumped to get coin with some online flyin once again. I am pretty rusty with il2 but I am sure I'll get up to speed asap. For the past couple years I have kept busy with some Falcon4 and a little BlackShark. But there is still nothing like this ( now) aging game of ours.

As life would have it I have just run into some of problems. I think my motherboard is the culprit as one of my ram slots recently crapper out on me followed by some graphic abnormalities to most recently my machine won't boot up at all. I pulled out my he and it's not even spinning. I am pretty sure I am not getting any power from the motherboard.

So I need to get this fixed when I get back from Arizona in a couple weeks. Currently I have a q6600 and 4 gb of ddr2 ram. I will try to upgrade to a mb that will use the same ddr2 ram as I could upgrade from4 to 6 or 7gb pretty cheap.

I really have no idea what I'll need to buy but I can tell you my days of buying the current latest and greatest hardware is over. I am a bit wiser now and will go with the stuff that was the latest and greatest 12 to 18 months ago and get it for 80 percent off... I just can't afford top of the line right now.

So until I get this taken care of I'll join you on teamspeak from my wires laptop or check the forums from my iPod.

Talk soon,
Joe

Salute Loyalnine

Glad to hear you are coming back. I thought you had great potential when I originally recruited you, and I was impressed with your flying when you were with us. I think your return will be a great addition to our team.

Cheers Buzzsaw

again thanks for the welcome. I am NewEgg shopping right now and am looking at at buying a Dual Core E8600, Asus P5N 750i Motherboard and some DDR2 Ram to finish it off. It is still gonna cost more than I hoped but thats the way it goes.

I am sitting in AZ right now and got a chance to go to Fry's today and man I WISH we had a place like that in Maine!! They had more FLight sim titles than my local Best Buy has PC games total.

Hopfully I will start the processes of ordering next week.

S! Loyalnine,

The new core i5 processors launched today. If you're buying processor+MB+ram, you might want to have a good look at those before you hit the buy button. Oh, and welcome back to the squad BTW!

Since when the hell did buying PC gear get so freakin' complicated. Intel and AMD need to seriously come up with new marketing strategies with their chips.

I see the I5... those are nice. I am on a bit of a budget - or shall I say my wife has the reigns pretty tight at the moment. I am kind of looking at the AMD chips. though not quite as fast if you compare the top chips they are WAAY less expensive and will accept DDR2 Ram. I dunno.. man I am just confused
right now.

So my current object of desire is the AMD955 with a motherboard that (may possibly take DDR3)

The chip is $189 and the MB is about $159 I could stack it with 8GB of DDR2 for $130. I could go DDR3 and the Motherboard would only be 20bucks more but the RAM cost will almost double.

S!

I seem to be linking to this buyer's guide (http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/buyers-guide/2009/09/15/what-hardware-should-i-buy-september-2009/3) pretty frequently, but there's lots of good info there for anyone considering an upgrade or a new system.
