Got a opportunity to be part of a training mission for the NAS Fallon SAR team this last week. They took me and one other guy from my squadron for a flight in their SH-60. We went through some mountains at low level before dropping us of on a ledge on the side of a mountain. They then took off made a circle and had one of the aircrew repel down to us and and hook up to us before lifting us off the ground and over the ledge to hoist us into the helicopter. I thought it was realy cool and was suprised that I was not any bit scared hanging from a rope about 800 feet above the ground.
This is me getting into the harness they use to hook up the rescuer
This is Lawson's Ledge where they landed to drop us off

This is me at the ledge looking at the helicopter as it was coming in. I wasn't standing like that very long since the rotor wash that came shortly after nearly blew me away
Here I am getting my harness hooked up to the rescuer's harness.

Here we just lifted off the ground and they were moving away from the mountain
Now we moved farther out but that was not nearly as far down was it was before they started hoisting us back inside.
This is a video of me getting pulled into the helicopter. I would turn down the volume its kindof loud

Stew spends his days in endless meetings and teleconferences, trying to hit budget and keep loan losses in check.
Meanwhile, Snake is travelling with the Blue Angels, repairing F-18s, and jumping out of helicopters! :)
Very cool, Snake. Thanks for sharing the pics!!!

Salute Snake
Great Stuff!
I have done a lot of filming with the guys from North Shore Rescue, which is the group who rescue people out of the mountains to the north of Vancouver. They are all volunteers, the government provides the money for equipment and training. They use the same helicopter techniques for pulling people out of ravines and off cliffs.
They do it in the middle of winter, with the threat of avalanches and 6 feet of snow, unsung heroes.
