S!

I found a very interesting article written by a pilot who flew the only remaining 109E. It gives a blow-by-blow description of flying the aircraft and offers some very interesting insights. One in particular dealt with its difficult ground handling and landing characteristics. I've always read and heard that it was a function of the narrow landing gear. However, he points out that the 25degree camber of the gear combined with the center of gravity were major factors beyond the obvious placement of the gear itself.

Also interesting to read his description of managing prop pitch while in maneuvers.

Not light reading but very informative.

Yeah, I posted that link on UBISOFT on the zoo.

I know the pilot, he is a very nice guy, gruff but friendly.

He has a ton of experience flying aircraft, everything from Military Jets to Helicopters, served as a test pilot with the Canadian NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL, which is kinda our version of NASA.

Great link Stew - Thnaks for posting that up. It was an enjoyable read. At 5'09 he was barely a fit in that cockpit. Those guys must have been small... Sounds like a handful to fly.

That is a small cockpit I am 6 foot and have sat in a few diffrent planes and most have a good bit of room although the cessna 152 I was flying was a bit cramped. I was supprised how big the pit of the texan was compaired to the f-18 but was told that most of the free space in there was taken up by the old radios.
