Hey saw that you do photography. I didn't want to hijack Wingers post so I decided to start a new one. I am a photog buff myself. I have a small bussiness I'm trying to get off the ground. I'd love to see some of your work. Here are some low res samples of mine. The first is a HDR of my gear at work. Next two from a wedding I did and the last is my youngest daughter's senior pic. Web compression messed with some of them. Here is a link to more http://www.raf74.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142

Thats awesome Drummer! Sounds like we are in much the same boat. I too am starting slow to get my business off the ground. I started back to college a few years ago pursunig my BA in Fine Arts and ended up taking a few photo classes along the way and got bit by the bug pretty hard. The school thing has kept me doing a lot of B&W darkroom work. The college I attend are BIG believers in starting off shooting and processing film. I was not a fan of that idea at first but am now satrting to understand where they moght be coming from.

I am willing to bet dollars for dougnuts Buzz is the resident expert here on this kind of stuff...

I consider myslef very much an intermediate at this time and still have a long, long way to go. I sometimes feel guilty now as I have been putting so much time into IL2 and I know I should probably be working on getting my website off the ground and doing some shooting. For the past couple summers I have worked as a second shooter for a few wedding photographers. I pretty much act as sherpa and keep my ears and eyes open and ask a shitload of questions. It has at least given me the opportunity to see how they work, their workflow and how they interact with the families. I am finding getting business is tough to start off with though. I really need to launch my website and kick some advertising in gear before this winter is over... maybe you could give me some pointers on my website once I have it almost up and running.

Mostly I just consider myself a hack who likes taking pictures. Most of my stuff is proabbaly of interest to nobody more than myself. I kind of have dreams of becoming a local newspaper photog but I think those days are soon long gone... I like my current career but its nice to have something to do on time off to earn some extra money. Its not a firefighters  schedule but I do make my own hours and have little to no immediate supervision so its REALLY good in that way.

I like those images very much. That HDR you did is great and your daughter is very lovely. I have found working with my own kids and wife a bit easier than a stranger. Mostly because they are at ease with my nerdness and I am at ease with them. Its odd in my professional life I can bullshit my way through things all day long without a hiccup... when taking pictures I guess I don't have the same level of confidence and it comes hard for me. I started to try and break that up by starting a "100 Strangers Project" the close portraits you see here are from that. Except the one with the dog.. thats my dog, Simon. (and my wife)

Are you suing Photomatix for HDR? I want that program SO BAD but don't have the $99 in the budget at the moment. I was playing with it just a couple of weeks ago for the first time. Unfortunatley they have the watermarks on them. Nothing great but fun to see it pull the highlights and darks all at once.

I have been investing all my money in gear for the past year. I knew before I started shooting for myself I would need a backup body and a stable of good lenses. So I am pretty much all set up now. I would like to get a couple more small off camera flashes and I think Illl be good to go. Speaking of wich I have the Strobist DVD set if you are interested I can send it out to you as a loaner for a while... its awesome.

Heres a few more of the stuff I have been doing. I have a hard drive full of stuff I need to paw through and see if I can pick some to post process through Lightroom.

Most of my photography just tends to be stuff... stuff I find interesting on the street. Then for some reason it always retains that for me in a photo. I love to people watch - its probably just a result of that.

This is me playing strobist for the night. You'll understand if you like David Hobby and frequent the Strobist website.

I threw this in figuring someone here knows this guy pretty good... I think hes all pumped up about the great job Snake has been doing.

Very nice!! Love the one of your wife and dog. I like your portraits as well. They are well composed and I like the DOF on them. Yes, I use photomatix for the HDR. I also use a combination of Lightroom, Photoshop CS3 and Portrait Pro. I see your a car guy..lol
Here are some of mine of cars.
