Salute

Logitech has recently come out with a HOTAS system which on paper looks pretty good.

Force feedback stick, splittable throttle, and pedals, all for a bargain price.

And the reviews have been quite positive.

However, the jury is still out on the longterm durability of the product. In the past, Logitech has had issues with reliability.

Unfortunately Stew, this is not really suitable for a leftie, there is a button on the left side of the stick, halfway down, that a leftie could not use, although the overall thickness of the stick is not great, so you could still grasp it. The throttle is also not built for a leftie, although I guess you could use it by turning it around and pulling down to increase throttle, rather than pushing up.

Here's a SIMHQ review:

The advantage that CH Products have, is that the company that makes them also makes industrial application products, which are built for industrial durability. That durability has been incorporated into their gaming products. I have never had a CH Stick crap out on me, and I have had my latest one for 8 years. Their Pro Pedals are less reliable, you sometimes get wires inside the box pulling loose, but they can be re-soldiered in 1/2 an hour, and good as new.

S! Rap,

Keep us posted on how you get on with it. I'm pretty interested in the Logitech kit myself.

I got to try out the g940 druing the Davenport show this year. The stick seemed pritty good. The sensitivity was great and there no jumping around or anything on the calibration screen. Although the force feadback was not consistent in when acting as the stick spring and was not very smooth. There was parts where it was harder to move and then easyer but not to much to affect my flying. The stick also didnt have the throw my ch stick had but I doubt that would be a problem for anyone who dosent use a ch stick since it seemed about the norm for other sticks. The buttons felt nice and the grip was comfortable. The throttle was nice the split throttle made me able to do stuff in lomac that got the Virtual Blue Angle guys saying how did you do that. They were smooth but was told there was an ab detent but I couldent realy feal it. I also liked the peddals they were also smooth and I liked how you could adjust the friction. My only gripe was the centering springs were not very strong so I found my self trying to find the center alot.

That Logitech does look cool but there are currently some worrisome reviews I have been reading online. Less than stellar reports of software and durability. Hopefully they will work it out as it has all the makings of a perfect setup.

I know that the guy that was showing it to me was saying that the beta software was abit buggy and said they hope it is fixed before they release it

Thanks for your comments.

The problem was with the centering springs on the pedals not being strong enough? Was that only the pedals?

Yes and only with the peddals. I have been using my ch stuff for like 6 years now and I am very comfortable with them. The ch peddals have pritty strong springs so the g940 setup felt to easy. The g940 setup would self center but it didnt take much pressure to move them. I found having both feet on it I would be inadvertently pressing on one side from the action of the aircraft and not by fealing.

I am just such a huge fan of CH gear its crazy... I have had the Saitek X52, Yoke and TQ and pedals. I purchased them after selling off my first set of CH gear when I decided to give up flight sims altogether. (It didn't last). I was at Best Buy and the X52 called out my name as I walked buy. Next thing you know I loading up Falcon4 again and ordered the rest of the kit. Though it was cool at first it quickly became sloppy as the parts had some hours on them.

I have also had a Thrustmaster Cougar with UberII NXT innards installed. I bought that off one of the Virtual Thunderbird birds guys. That stick was supposedly the "creme de la creme" of sticks (for the price it should have been too!) However I found although it felt great it was still not as exact as the CH gear I had. I also did not get to know the Foxy programming software like I should have. I sold that off for what I bought it for and went out and bought another set of CH.

I was AMAZED when I got the CH stuff again how precise it was. I was flying a lot of Falcon 4 at the time and you can really tell how sloppy (or good) a sticks precision is when your lining up a CCRP bomb run and trying to keep things perfect in your HUD during ingress. It works just as good now as the day I bought it. Rumor is that they are likely coming out with a consumer version of teh A10 stick with that split throttle. I will buy that even though I wont need it.

I am and will always be a lifelong CH user. There stuff is just second to none in my opinion. The rest of these fancy sticks worry me in that although they may be pretty whats on the inside that counts. I want industrial toughness not fancy lights. Though I would like to see a FFB incorporated into one of their models to see what it is like.

I have had my ch stuff forever. The only problem I had was one of the wires riped out on the left break of my peddals. That was after almost 6 years and it only took me a couple hours to repair it.

I would reccomend it. If you have a problem and post it at the CH Hangar within the day (minutes usually) Debby, Michael or Bob Church will post an answer to help you. I have never seen anything like it...

If you do I can get together with you on TS and teach you the CH Software so you can program it to your hearts content.

Thats where I found the parts list and a wire schematic wich I looked up before even looking inside it. I wanted to make sure I would be able to get parts if need be.
