The members of RAF74, a squadron with over ten years of active participation in online combat flights sims, are proud to announce our latest endeavor: The RAF74 Historical Dogfight Server!

Using many of the new capabilities provided by the latest mods, we have created a diverse set of objective-driven maps that offer a combination of action and historical fidelity. Our missions reward coordination and team play that focuses on achieving the goals laid out for each map; we encourage players to utilize our public TeamSpeak server. Normal run-time for our maps is two hours, so there is plenty of opportunity to allow the action to develop. Moreover, a full set of AI flights is provided in every map, so there's always something going on!

Our missions take place over Slovakia, Thailand/Burma, El Alamein, Bessarabia, Italy, Midway, Finland, and Libya, with more in development. Each has been researched and developed to offer a fun, balanced scenario placed within the historical context. Where possible, we have tried to adhere closely to historical events as they happened; in other cases, we have made limited changes in order to offer players the best possible online flying experience.

So if you want to fly with the 3rd Squadron of the American Volunteer Group as they race to intercept Sallys bound for Rangoon on Christmas morning 1941, or join LLv24 in a ski-equipped Fokker D.XXI as they tangle with Soviet I-15s and I-16s over frozen Finnish lakes during the Winter War, or fly low across the dunes in a Desert Air Force Hurricane as the British attempt to halt Rommel's last desperate drive into Egypt, head over to Hyperlobby and look for “RAF74Historical”. See you in the skies!

FAQ:

What mods package do you use?

- We use the latest Ultrapack mods. Currently this is version 2.0m.

What should I enable in JSGME?

- The following mods are run on our server:
6DOF_Tracker
Zuti_DSMod_v1.12_UP
Atm_mod_original
TougherBridges
TougherTrains

What are the difficulty settings?

- We run all settings on (“full switch”) except for the Speedbar.

How do I join your TeamSpeak server?

- Point your TS client to 98.126.33.186:8767

Do you run CRT=2?

- Currently no. The reason for this that that UP2.0 has introduced checks that prohibit custom skins on the client side. While we would prefer to continue to offer players the opportunity to use their own skins while flying on the RAF74 Historical Dogfight Server, we reserve the right to institute CRT=2 if circumstances warrant.

I tried to join, but I couldn't find the server on Hyperlobby?

- Our server also hosts the Forgotten Skies online war, which runs Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday between 9.00-11.30pm Eastern time. At these times the RAF74 Historical Dogfight Server will be unavailable. We regret any inconvenience.

I have more questions. Where can I get answers?

- RAF74 has set up a public forum dedicated to the Dogfight Server. You can find it at: http://www.raf74.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=8

Just tried the Midway map which is another excellent job ! Tried to get a vector to the target, couldn't get any :-) Which is lovely realistic to this map and I guess it's on purpose on this unique map.

RAF74_Drummer designed that map, so perhaps he'll chime in here as to the design decisions. On the maps I've done I've tried to replicate the historical situation as best I could, including whether or not the precise location of targets was known. Nonetheless, we're happy that others share our interest in a historically-accurate dogfight experience.

More of us then :-) Instead of like P40E's vs Georges.

Just thought I would express my appreciation to you guys. Thanks for bringing this online. Its refreshing and its nice not to see good plane sets. As my friend said,,,,,,P40E's against Georges is not realistic. So far, what we have seen and best to our knowledge, if that plane was not operating in that theater, then its not there, to this, we thank you. While we know it is not possible to get it all right, you guys are on the right path and it appears you are trying very hard. Keep up the good work. And last but not least, the server runs smooth, enjoyable.

Really glad to hear you've found it enjoyable so far. We've tried very hard to make the missions as close to historically correct as the game and play balance allow.

VF/A guys.

Glad you guys are having fun with our maps and server. That is the whole reason we've done this. As Bimmer has pointed out, we have tried to make the maps as historic as possible within the limitations of the game.

Our maps are more suited to the "Hardcore" pilots. Nothing iritates me more than jumping on a server and seeing willy nilly planesets.

We hope as time goes on and the word gets out, that we will get more of the community visiting our server and enjoying it as you are.

See you in the skies
