Some of us are taking the plunge into Windows 7. I just installed W7 x64 and like it so far- never went down the Vista path. Everything I know about PCs comes from screwing them up and spending hours fixing 'em. So, I thought it might be worthwhile to post a thread where we can offer tips and ideas, especially as relates to IL-2.
1. Game install
I learned this the hard way- Do not intall IL-2 in the "Programs" folder. W7 doesn't like programs being modified and when we download our weekly patches :) they won't install properly. Some say the same goes for TS and HL, but mine appear to be working ok.
Note: You will have to create a directory structure manually if you don't install in the program folder. I created an "ubisoft" folder and then IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 sub-folder within the root directory. Once you have done that simply point the installer to the location and it works fine. Some install IL-2 in their public games folders.
2. God mode
Best thing since sliced bread! My one peeve with W7 is it didn't have the same control panel directory where you could do anything. I found this neat tip on SimHq: simply create a desktop folder titled GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} . When you click on it you get a complete run down on system settings.

Well, that's the extent of my helpful advice after only one week in W7. Who else has tips/ideas?
